Shenandoah Cabin Run
There’s a comfortable cabin that is a wonderful escape, and one of Don’s favorite places in the world. In early March, 2023, Don and Chase returned for a wonderful weekend.
NOTES FROM THE TRIP
Chase and I are hanging out in one of my favorite places in this world for the weekend. It’s a log cabin slightly North of the Shenandoah River near Millwood VA.
The last time we were here he was 6 months old. He is so happy to be back.
We plan to do some hiking on the Appalachian Trail, and spend a lot of time at the university of Virginia Arboretum, one of the reasons that I really wanted to come back here. We will also have some play time in the Shenandoah river. When I say we, I mean of course, Chase.
I love it here. Always have.

On day two of our Shenandoah River Cabin Run, we woke up early and went to the University of Virginia Arboretum. It was windy, but we had a great hike. Chase posed at a couple spots when he was 6 months…more of that in another post. We walked, we played. We also did some training, which he nailed.
Then we went to a great shop in Millwood, The Locke Store, to snag one of their fantastic sandwiches and enjoyed it in the wonderful mill stream convergence area, which is a delightful park.
I began reading a new book, then after a nap at the cabin, we went to Sky Meadows State Park and did some vertical trail hikes.
We also did a lot of training. I was hoping for the free range chickens, but they were in a coup. So we trained near them. He did perfectly.
Then we head back to the cabin, fired up the fireplace and cooked a great meal.
On our way home on Sunday, we stopped at the Dahlgreen Heritage Railroads trail and hiked a bit to stretch our legs.
