Paddle Boarding

Paddle Boarding

To spend more time on the water and to get more exercise, Chase The Dog and I have taken up paddle boarding. Most evenings we can be found on Monroe Bay, enjoying the sunset. My board is a High Society Shadowcatcher. It’s an 11 wide board with extra inflatable pontoons on the side for incredible stability. I also mounted a Larry Chair to...

Chase and I go Glamping

Chase and I go Glamping

Chase The Dog and I went on our first Glamping Trip this weekend! We stayed in a cool wall tent on 60 acres in the Shenandoah Mountains (only 4 tents). After we settled in we swam in a spring fed pond on the property and then hiked the White Oak Creek Canyon trail to the first waterfall. We didn’t plan on swimming, but it was a hot day, so we found a secluded pool, stripped down to our skivvies (yes, Chase has skivvies) and dove in. It was a great trip and I look forward to returning. I found this on Hipcamp, a great site for non-conventional campsites (people’s back yard, vineyards, vacant property…)...

Gotta love a good Saturday

Gotta love a good Saturday

At Backporch Vineyard, March 11, 2023 A slightly damp Chase The Dog striking his HeroPose™ at the Backporch Vineyard today. After a wonderful hike at the George Washington’s Birthplace this morning, we head a few miles up King’s Highway to the Vineyard, knowing the Fire Escape Grille would have their food truck there. The food truck will soon have a brick-and-mortal restaurant in Colonial Beach (May) and I wanted to check out their fare. When I saw they had a blue cheese bacon burger via their website, I held off on red meat for the week so I could enjoy this. And it was VERY good. We’ll fit in an extra hike this week to burn off the carbs! Chase watching the bulls at Washington’s...

Shenandoah Cabin Run

Shenandoah Cabin Run

There’s a comfortable cabin that is a wonderful escape, and one of Don’s favorite places in the world. In early March, 2023, Don and Chase returned for a wonderful weekend. NOTES FROM THE TRIP Chase and I are hanging out in one of my favorite places in this world for the weekend. It’s a log cabin slightly North of the Shenandoah River near Millwood VA. The last time we were here he was 6 months old. He is so happy to be back. We plan to do some hiking on the Appalachian Trail, and spend a lot of time at the university of Virginia Arboretum, one of the reasons that I really wanted to come back here. We will also have some play time in the Shenandoah river. When I say we, I mean of course, Chase. I love it here. Always have....

Albequreque International Balloon Festival 2022

Albequreque International Balloon Festival 2022

October in Albequreque is all about the launching of hundreds of hot air balloons. It’s a wonderous thing to see. It was amazing to see the logistics of getting 500 balloons airborne in the early morning. If you have an open spot on your bucket list, put this on...

Sunset on the Bosque

Sunset on the Bosque

In February, 2022 I traveled to New Mexico for a week, one of my favorite hikes was the Bosque, a preserve that surrounds the Rio Grande, which runs through New Mexico. “Bosque” means ‘woods’. The Sandia Mountains are in the background, color on these photos have not been altered…it really looked like...
